Crops grown through sustainable agriculture usually don’t contain chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This cuts down on synthetic materials which may not be ideal for human exposure. This is believed to reduce the risk of illness from exposure to chemical and fertilizers.
Plants and animal products produced through sustainable agriculture are also more natural, and tend to be more nutritious.
Sustainable agriculture also affects the environment positively by using 30% less energy for every unit of crop yield when compared with industrialized agriculture. Unlike traditional agriculture, fossil fuels are not used as the major form of energy, thus reducing environmental pollution.
This method of agriculture also helps maintain the quality of the soil, reducing soil erosion and degradation. Sustainable agriculture provides various organisms with a healthy and natural habitat to exist, improving the biodiversity of the environment.
Though sustainable agriculture has helped promote farming practices that are healthy for both people and the environment, there are sometimes some concerns about how much food is produced.
